My grandfather Christopher Hamre gave me his family photo showing his father Amund Hamre and mother Dorothea Lehrol leaving Norway for Renville Co., MN. in 1881. He also gave us a photo of the farm in Norway. At a meeting of Valdresbund in Granite Falls, MN. about 25 years ago, an individual called me over after noticing the farm photo and asked me where I had found a photo of the Hamre Farm on the end of `the lake`. I asked if it still looked like the photo and she said `easily`, that only a few additions were added. Lehrols farm was nearby she said, and that was were great grandpa got his wife. I am interested in knowing what life was like for them in Norway. Regards, |

There is a WONDERFUL book called "Between Rocks and Hard Places" by Ann Urness Gesme - its about "traditions, customs and conditions in Norway during the 1800s, emigration from Norway, the immigrant community in America" |
