Over the past 18 months or so I have done interview shows with several female artists from the 50s and 60s. They are on my Radio Page (the link is below) and you can listen to any show by merely clicking on the artist's name. The artists are: Ginny Arnell, the Chordettes (Lynn Evans and Marge Needham), Carol Connors (aka Annette Kleinbard: lead singer of the Teddy Bears), Jill Corey, the Poni-Tails (Toni Cistone Costabile and LaVerne Novak Glavac), Dee Dee Phelps (of Dick and Dee Dee), the Dixie Cups (Barbara and Rosa Hawkins), the Murmaids (Terry and Carol Fischer), Gogi Grant, Janie Grant, Barbara Harris (lead singer of the Toys), Jill Jackson ("Paula" of Paul and Paula -- Ray Hildebrand, who was "Paul," is also on that interview), Peggy King, Beverly Lee (of the Shirelles), Barbara Lewis, the Pixies Three, Peggy March, the Paris Sisters (Albeth and Sherrell), April Stevens (plus her brother Nino Tempo),Sue Thompson, Ginny Wright and Kathy Young. I hope that I did not leave anyone out. If I did, I will post an "addendum" message! Please send your comments on these shows to me at RonnieOldiesGuy@aol.com. http://www.jerseygirlssing.com/RonnieRadioPage.html Ronnie's Radio Page |

I have enjoyed most of all I have heard. I know you have no real control of it but I thought it was a real drag when the interviewee makes us all listen to what they are doing currently when it is something totally different from what made them famous such as with Diane Renay and Gretchen Christopher of the Fleetwoods. I realize that they are proud of what they were now doing but it would be great if it could be more limited. P.S. At least it usually comes at the end! |

Richard, it's interesting that the two interviewees that you mentioned, namely Gretchen Christopher and Diane Renay, are not on my Radio Page. I did do a show with Gretchen but, by mutual agreement, we decided to remove it from that page. As for Diane, I've done three different shows with her but none recently. So I am wondering which ones you heard. I do not always go into what the artists are currently doing but generally, if the artists wish to go there, I do allow it. I assume in the case of Gretchen and Diane you are referring to their new CDs. I don't see anything wrong with allowing that and most of the private comments I have received have been positive ones. I do try to strike a balance between highlighting an artists career and bringing things up to date. http://www.jerseygirlssing.com/RonnieRadioPage.html Ronnie's Radio Page [This message has been edited on 03/02/2009] |

I was referring to what I believe was the first Renay interview from back in early 2002. At that time time was a factor that it isn't now so hearing her new stuff meant less time for her history. Just personal preference. |
