Any fans out there of this Philadelphia group? "Who Do You Love" continues to be one of my favourites. Do you prefer their songs when they were backed by George Gainer and Joe Livingston, or when they were backed by Valerie Simpson, Nick Ashford and Melba Moore? |

Hi Ontariofan. I agree that "Who Do You Love" is a good one. Unfortunately,I am unfamiliar with their other stuff. |

Way back in 1965, my cousin from upper Vermont (Burlington) gave a bunch of 45s to me that he and his brothers were using as clay pigeons (skeet)! In that pile was one by the Sapphires (can't recall the name - might have been a radio-station demo). Great song! And, yes, Who Do You Love is/was great - and on the haunting side! So glad we have PCs and can thank our oldies artists! Best to all - Lenny G. |

I recently picked up a one sided promo 45 for Who Do You Love on ebay.... alas, when i got it, it was cracked...dangit! However if you want a real treat, take the stock 45 and flip it over, the B side is great! |

The Sapphires on Swan were the best-the ABC Paramount stuff I can take or leave. In the U K only 2 singles from Swan and about the same for the other label. I would place them in the same area as Jan Bradley,Barbara Lewis, the Cookies,Ruby & the Romantics-ie the black girls who sounded white http://groups.yahoo.com/group/highschoolpoppers Mostly girl singers of the 60s plus Beatles, instrumentals,a few guys |
