There is a lady of song, whose voice is so melodic, warm and distinct, with a special way with her phrasing. She carasses each lyric in a very tender way, and that makes her very special to me. I am talking about the wonderful and unique- Joanie Sommers. I love her songs, the hits like "Johnny Get Angry" and "One Boy", and the non hits like the beautiful and poignant "Since Randy Moved Away"- A classic in the girl group sound genre. The song did not chart nationally, but while I lived in Miami in 1963-1964, it charted on WQAM and got some airplay. If you have never heard it, you need to listen to it, and if you have, please listen to it again and listen to Joanie's clean, touching "tear in her voice" vocals in this gem of a song. Ronnie, I hope one day you can interview this great lady of song (hint)and play this wonderful song during the interview. I would love to hear Joanie's comments on it. http://www.560.com/html/1963_survey_images_6.htm WQAM survey--March,1963 |

I agree, Joanie is legendary. I have a Yahoo Group for her fans to share her music and memories. Joanie is in the hospital right now, but she sends messages to the group, and answers questions. All Joanie fans are welcome to join us. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Joanie_Sommers/ Yahoo Group Fan Club |

I vaguely remember a record by Joanie Somers made about 1963 and called I think Bad girl-I especially liked that one. The hit Johnny get angry was covered here by Carole Deene who charted with it. I think she holds a World record for cover versions ny the SAME ARTIST-3 Sue Thompson songs in a year! Which probably pleased John D Loudermilk as he'd written them all! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rumine This is the website of Ginny Wright |

Joanie known as the Pepsi Cola girl. We loved her two big hits,"Johnny get angry" and "One boy". I listened to "Since Randy moved away", a pop ditty on her Johnny Get Angry Warner Brothers Album. 1470; a must have for Joannie fans. Like Randy was popular in part of the country, her song "piano Boy" a short lived, but great pop song, also worth listening too, was played on the west coast. "little girl blue" magnanimously done by Joni James is comparable by Joannie. |

"THE PIANO BOY" has always been my very favorite Joanie Sommers song. Love it to death! |

Ally and Wes, "The Piano Boy" is a really good song, one of my favorites, and definitely a different sound. It preceded her huge hit "Johnny Get Angry". I also like "Bobby's Hobbies", "Mean To Me", "Goodbye Joey", and "Theme From A Summer Place". |

How about "I'D BE GOOD FOR YOU"? I THINK that was the title. |

Guess the correct title above is "I'd Be So Good For You" Another thing about Joanie is the fact that when you hear her voice in a song, you instantly know who's singing, even if you don't know the song. Don't think there's another voice in the world similar to hers. |

Wes, You are so right, it is so recognizable. There's a very unique warm timbre to her voice. I think Ginny has this quality as well without sounding alike. |

For me Joanie is a very special singer, and of her many songs, "Since Randy Moved Away" holds a special place in my heart;there is just something about the vocals in this song that just blow me away. Given that, today I undertook my second You Tube video project and made a little video to honor this song. I am including the link for those that might be interested in seeing and hearing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z_KiVfczlM My video of Joanie's "Since Randy Moved Away" |

I wonder if any of her U.S. releases showed her as "Joannie Sommers"... i once saw a scan on another message board of a foreign 45 that did... but the corresponding U.S. 45 was properly labeled.... odd. |

Does anyone know if Joanie recorded "He Touched Me", and, if so, what album is it on. I heard her sing it in San Jose in the late '60s, and I can still hear it - she did it so well.. |
