My Great-Great Aunt Julia Brine(Brun) told my Grandfather stories when he was young, of one of her great grandmothers hiding in a hollowed out tree trunk when she was young, to avoid the men searching the area for acadians who had got away during the deportation. Julia's great grandmother would also light this old pipe and smoke during her stories. They would often gather around and one of the youngsters would play the piano while they sang old songs. She also tried to show the youngsters how to smoke the pipe when the other adults were not around. I often wonder if she got the smoking habit from the Indians in the area. I guess she was quite the character, my great great great great grandmother, but I don't know if she was from my Brun line or Cormier line, as Julia's mother was Anne Cormier.
