I loved the writing for tonight's show. Building to a pay-per-view is the obvious goal and Raw did that tonight. Of course you could argue that more should've been done before tonight but that's a different story. Tonight was all about the Survivor Series. I'm glad to see WWE go back to the traditional format, something that used to be a lot of fun in my younger years. I can probably still tell you about all those teams from back then, like the Hulkamaniacs, with guys like Demolition teaming up with Hulk Hogan against the Big Boss Man, Akeem and the Powers of Pain. Or like when Jake Roberts had the Rockers on his team against Rick Martel, Power and Glory and the Warlord. Fun times. They would cut promos for about two months before the PPV with the whole team with the Survivor Series backdrop. They can't build to PPVs like that anymore because there's a PPV every month, if not more. I didn't think the concept would work this year because crazy teams like that are put together all the time now. But I think WWE has for the most part made it fun by putting guys from different shows together. It's funny how much better a show like Raw is when the brands are combined. I think the days of the hard split among shows are long gone. WWE just can't afford to lack the starpower. I think this is a good way to keep identities with certain shows but still make shows like tonight's get that big-time feel. The build-up to the pay-per-view with the various one-on-one contests (including Dusty Rhodes!) combined with that awesome Johnny Nitro-Jeff Hardy ladder match made tonight's show a four-out-of-five star show.
