The current proposal is to donate the earnings from our first Xcel event of the year to the new PDX chapter in Duluth, Beta Psi. Please discuss thoughts on the proposal here.

I think it is a good idea as well. It would be an easy way for us to help.

I would like to know a little more about why they need money from us. What is the money being used for? Are they unable to do fundraising(i.e bake sales)?

I agree we should at least lone Beta Psi $ we make from our first event. We could let Beta Psi work Excel events with us, or under our group contract. We do not have a limit to how many concessions we work. For simplicity they could work 1 or 2 events by themselves and get paid for those particular events. They would also get paid for training b/c we will likely fulfill our contract this year. I guess it's up to Beta Psi if they would be willing to come down to train and work, but they could do this during winter break or after spring semester (our contract doesn't restart until July 1st).

I think it is a nice idea, but I am concerned about our own financial situation. Do we have money to give?? Also, what guidance does nationals give to new chapters needing $$$? Instead of (OR in addtion to) giving them money, we should help them establish viable ways to fundraise. This will help them in the long run.

I really agree with Shannon and Kevin's logic. As much as I would love to just dole out money to them, that wouldn't really be solving the underlying issue. Also, I think getting them to come down here to do Xcel events is a bit of a stretch. I just can't really see it happening, especially second years. Maybe they could work events at the DECC or somewhere up there, Duluth is a big city. I also agree that there must be some procedure in place from national on how to stimulate initial capital/$$ for new chapters.

I think Beta Psi needs the initial donation from out Xcel Event. I agree with Shannon, it's a good idea to get productive fundraisers in place, but we have to help them get rolling first. Song indicated "I belive the regalia will cost $2000 for the whole set".So...I guess it comes down to...it will take a few years for Beta Psi to REALLY get rollin.

Theta Brothers...thanks for thinking of our Beta Psi Chapter. When Beta Psi was starting up, securing finances for Beta Psi's daily function should have taken place but I've been told there was very little discussion at that time. What we (Theta) need to do now is to help them (Beta Psi) get on their feet. Instead of simply giving them money, show them how to raise the funds so that they themselves get the job done. There has been different ways to help the new chapters to acquire regalias in the past. But since nationals have very tight budget it will take some creativity on our part. The regalias are not cheap. National and regional officers are looking into ways to facillitate..and we have two other chapters in similar situation. Let's help them and let me and Brock know what you have planned. Thanks. Alterum...Song

I am definately for giving a donation to Beta Psi. I agree with everyone's logic about helping Beta Psi put some long-term fundraisers in place, but their search has come up short. The DECC will not let them volunteer like the Xcel Center will, and I believe making them come to St. Paul to fundraise will put a large burden on them and their scholastic achievements. They are actively looking for fundraising opporotunites, but for now the only available options are bagging groceries at the local grocery store. We stand for the saying, each needs the help of the other, in my eyes, they need our help. I think it's very important for a new chapter to have money for pledging and stabalizing their chapter to ensure their success in the future.

I think that we should give them the money from our first xcel event. Just because we do it this one time does not mean that they are going to depend on us in the future, this is just to get them going. I think that is the least that we can do for them. Bake sales are not going to cut it!

i agree with c note and everyone else. help them out this time with the expectation that they will get goin on fundraising themselves (which we could help/guide them with that too)

Beta Psi doesn't have similiar opportunities to fundraise as we do, as Sarah pointed out. As it may be they will have to be creative in order to become financially stable as a chapter. This has really been one of their primary concerns and they have been trying to come up with creative ways to fundraise. Although their expenses are significantly different then ours, no house, dinners, scholarships, Cragun's and ect. I think that making a donation to Beta Psi is appropiate and would be greatly appreciated.
