The proposal is to donate $300 from the chapter to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund (Red Cross). Discuss and share thoughts on the motion here.

I like this idea. Keep in mind, we have a fraternity charity as well- St. Judes. I was thinking of using some generated yard sale money (maybe f/ baked goods/ lemonade) to donate to St. Judes, but could we use $50 of the $300 to give to St. Judes?

Are we going to keep any of the money in a different fund so Jo and Holly don't have to spend there own money to buy party supplies? I think we could donate maybe $150 or so, but I think it should be necessary to keep extra money in the 'social fund'.

Thanks Brock, I think we definitely SHOULD donate some of the money. However, I think something needs to change in the way we handle parties. It isn't 'joanna and holly are throwing a party' right? We are an organization and the organization should figure a way to maintain this even when setting up the party. Granted, as a person taking the hit on the credit card, I have vested interest in this. -That being said-I believe that the best option would be to maintain at least $200 for a social fund to cover (for sure) at least half of the kegs(~2) and the security deposit ($100 for kegs and tap). We could then choose to donate the remaining $100 plus a matched $100 from the chapter account to Hurricane Katrina. Therefore, the same amount of moneys were given to two causes and we both win. Thanks!!Jo
