What do you think this site needs? What could we do to make it better?
Judy posted 5/11/06 1:52 AM
There's an internal server error on the blogs and I can't access any of them.

I think we should expand the art expressions page and start posting pictures of events that happen on campuses, or elsewhere. And also, there should be more "art" art like what's up already. I know there are lots of artists out there who take their inspiration from issues like the ones we ponder.

Judy,I totally agree, i think that that section could be quite amazing...the thing is its so difficult to hunt down artists, you know? maybe we could advertise it in some way as i'm sure many young artists would be jazzed so their work on a website, right?

Hm. I don't know about adding to the site so much as getting the name out there. It's really well-organized, and there are awesome resources here.I think if more people find out about this, you'll be able to get more stories/art/events to add.

hey, thanks Dana! we're looking to do a big promotional campaign in the next few weeks, we just have to organize our thoughts and come up with a game plan. any ideas on how to reach the right audiences?
Dana posted 6/23/06 4:31 AM
*grin* Oh, I can throw out ideas... don't know how good they'll be! But, well, what do you see as the "right audiences"? Who are you trying to target?

ha, believe me, any suggestions are appreciated. basically, we're trying to reach young christian adults (18-30?) with an interest in social justice - or willingness to get interested! so far, college campuses are the obvious choice, but we'd like to reach non-students too.

I'd try getting hooked up with organizations that have volunteer programs for that age group, like trusty-dusty MCC. I think mostly the people who volunteer with such organizations are trying to figure out where they fit in the broad scheme of social justice. Another good group is Presbyterian Young Adult Volunteers. I'm sure there are lots more. Anyone?

As a music artist, I'd like to see the Art Expressions section include some music written around this cause as well. I'd love to post a song I've written called "What Will You Do?"

Hi Tim - I looked on your website, but didn't see the song. If you send me the link, I'll be sure to put it up. (kraleym@crcna.org)

Hello again Meghan! As for how to reach the non-college YAs - I'd say start locally. Try the gym, the library, or churches. IF you can find YAs at churches, they'll likely either be really really active, or disconnected. In either case, great - either you can plug in with the active group, or provide a way for people to connect. Even a tiny group of dedicated YAs can be a service/advocacy link between the Real World (NOT the MTV kind!) and the rest of the congregation. As far as on the 'net... don't think I can help you. I haven't seen much. Did find a UMC YA forum, but it's awfully quiet. I'll try to find the link and post it.Overall - don't give up. Keep plugging away. DON'T let the site - especially the board - stagnate. Encourage people to come back and let us all know what's going on in their lives. Work at building a community, even if not all the mutual encouragement is directly related to advocacy. :)

Hey everyone, Tracy here from California. I should have been participating in this board all along, sorry about that. Meghan and Jason, another way to reach the older young adults would be seminary groups - Fuller has a Peace and Justice Concerns Committee which I can hook you guys into. I'm not sure of the status of Calvin Sem's justice group now. I'm sure other seminaries have justice groups - it's at least worth looking into.A lot of my friends have young children, and are unbelievably busy, and I'm wondering how activists can reach out to young families who may like to get involved in justice action, but don't really feel like there's a place for them to participate...Just wondering if anyone else has thought about this. Great conversations, everyone!

What about making it easier for people to post their own "peer profiles" on their own? You could always take something down it if was offensive, but this would give people a "my space" kind of forum to introduce themselves and why they care about justice.
