http://www.globalrichlist.com/ This is an interesting site that put things into perspective for me. I was also able to gain a lot of good information by reading their notes on how they came up with the "global rich list".

This isn't exactly a link per se, but I'd encourage everyone to google their own city - I'm currently obsessed with local co-ops and community gardening, and even though I live in a relatively urban area, there's literally dozens of local resources here. crazy! I'd never have known otherwise...

Check this out - a quiz featuring some of the information immigrants must know in order to pass the U.S. citizenship test. I only came in at 70%...grounds for denial.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13442226/

yeah, if you read the explanation at the top of the page, it states that they took some of the harder questions from the 100+ actually on the test, so odds are we'd get significantly(?) higher scores on the real exam. The real shock for me wasn't how little I know about American civics (which I was well aware of beforehand), but how little the typical American knows, or even wants to know about their country, when there are so many other people who would give anything to live here. I guess we/I really take our history and heritage for granted.

I don't know how accurate the numbers are, but http://monopolis.net is a really cool perspective on what various statistics mean across the globe.
