I just discovered a great website that allows students (and teachers) to build their own search engines, http://BuildaSearch.com. It is very easy to use and students love it. Students can customize the colors, fonts, backgrounds and name of their search engine. Teachers can customize the students search options by adding only the sites relevant and appropriate for the class. Teachers can also add the BuildaSearch search to their class website, this feature allows students to browse the class website only. I let my 6th grade class build their own website yesterday and it was a huge success.
