Thanks for the neat web site. Now comes the Big Early June Question. What are the prospects for Frog Holler strawberries this year? |

The strawberries I got on Wednesday were great, well worth the worry and wait. I have been helping Joe Ray of Platt Road Farm in Milan at market this season. He grows and sells plants, mostly flowers, roses, geraniums, heliotrope (the in thing this year). His stall is by the office at the other wing from Frog Holler. Unfortunately he and the other vendors that I have gotten to know in that area are not doing so well this year due to high costs of heating gas, motor fuel, and not such a hot market for what they sell. I hope things are going better on your side. It is certainly wonderful that you have the time and energy to plan a farm party in early July but due to another commitment I probably will not be there. |

Great web site! I love the design, page layout, content, etc. There's nothing about it that I don't like! The only thing I might gently suggest would be to credit the author(s) somewhere (I'm assuming at least Kenny, with probably others). This kind of first-rate work deserves crediting. The history section is really interesting. Having spent so much time out there over the years I felt like I was an 'expert,' however, I'm once again reminded that there's always something new to learn as we travel life's road. And the photos - wow! Makes me wish I was a farmer... :) Once again, *great* job on the website! I can't wait until the July 2nd barn dance, and am looking forward to seeing my old friends - and many new ones - there. Can't wait to dive into the pond and chase Ken's fishies around for a few laps! All the best, --Kip |

I saw the recent Observer article about the Farmers' Market. I appreciate Ken's efforts to control the sale of inappropriate merchandise. This spring I noticed vendors selling shrubs that looked just like the ones from Lowe's. I assumed they came from their wholesale supplier. Alex Nemeth however told me that Lowe's has a very liberal return policy and market vendors were buying material there, then trying to sell it at the Farmer's market and returning for refund what they could not unload. This seems tacky to me and I also wonder if any worthwhile money could be produced that way. If people keep getting away with that I think the market will lose much of its appeal and customer base. |
