Author Topic:   Frustrated with Hospital Staff

My grandfather was admitted into an acute care hospital for CHF and a pressure ulcer on his heel. He then had some more complications with a serious bleed in his stomach and kidney failure. After 3 1/2 weeks, he is finally getting better. The problem is that he has been bedridden and many of the nurses are not turning him. He has developed another pressure ulcer on his lower back. I tried to talk to his nurse, but she seemed like she did not want to be bothered. I asked for the nursing supervisor, but she never came. I called two of his physicians, but they never called me back. My grandfather tells me that they never turn him or get him into a chair because he is too large and it is too hard for them because they are understaffed. I am so frustrated because nobody will listen to me. Should I contact an attorney?

I contacted an attorney because I was so disgusted with the bedsores that my father developed due to the same reasons as your grandfather. Any excuse is unacceptable no matter how old or big the patient may be or they're illness. My father had a stroke and was paralyzed on one side of his body. I was so disgusted with the care, I transferred my father to a private nursing home and asked that pictures be taking of his whole body. Once the pictures were taken, I then contacted a lawyer and they took the case immediately! I was told by my attorney that the pictures were a big help and showed evidence of Stage IV Decubitus. Four days later after my father was transferred to the new nursing home, he passed away. I hope you continue to fight!

Continue to fight as hard as you can. My mother passed away from 14 stage 4 bed sores and numerous staph infections. The staff in the hospital told me outright that they didn't follow a turning schedule even though tere was one posted right on her hospital wall. Even a call to a United States Senator to the Administration of the hospital didn't help. My mother passed away on Aug 29, 2008 after suffering for 7 months. There are countries in Europe that now consider this to be a form of negligent homicide. Recently, in 2002, there was a case in Hawaii in which a nursing home administrator was charged with negligent homicide when one of the residents in the facilities developed bed sores and passed away from them. Keep up the fight, please.
