Hi, I was wondering if I could glean some information from the posters here. I just bought an Arabian gelding and he has very flat heels. When I got him he had way too much toe on his front feet. Do long toes contribute to underrun heels? How will my farrier go about giving him a heel again?

Hi there. Long toe/Low Heel is a very difficult condition to correct. Using a "white line strategy" for trimming helps tremendously. The farrier/trimmer must be sensitive to the individual hoof when applying this trim as it means taking the toe back to or, possibly through, the white line while, at the same time, taking the heels back to the widest point of the frog. http://www.barefoothorse.com, Marjorie Smith's site, has a very clear illustration with directions on this trim. You might want to print it out to show your farrier. I've used it numbers of times with 100% success. Good luck and please keep us posted! *S* -- Gwen
