I am restoring a Soling called Aquarius of Tonebridge. Any info on builder, age, history, etc, would be appreciated. Sail no: K83 on main. may not be correct. Noel |

Dear Noel, It sounds like the boat is about 3-0 years old, if that sail number of K83 is correct;in fact, possibly a bit older. Are you restoring the boat to race or cruise? Do get in touch - I can put you in touch with people who have rebuilt these machines to do either. Yours, Iain the secretary. iainloudon@aol.com |

Dear Noel Become a BSA member and you will have a lot of information on how to rebuild your old soling, even if the purpose is not regatta, there are Safety modifications in the older boats that shall be done. To know more about the boat, lookfor a small plaque under the deck at the aft bulkhead OR at the breake wave in front of the mast OR besides de mast a small pin, if you find one of these write down all info you can read, if you can not read anything place a white paper and with a pencil scratching you will be able to read what was written there. Send me an email and I will try to find out the history of the boat. http://www.soling.com International Soling Class Association |

Thanks Guys for replies. The intention is to race the boat (which now sails very well even with the few very old tired and much repaired sails..) in an IRC mixed cruiser fleet. We have partly restored it to its original standard with special emphasis on safety features such as water tight bulkheads, etc. If all goes well, I would consider a second Soling to develop match racing / sail training. This particular Soling is a seriously fun and challenging boat to sail, it brings you right back to sailing by the seat of your pants, basics, tuning and tactics, a dramatic change from racing my old 10m three quarter tonner. Dear Noel, Very good news that you are enjoying racing the boat. Do please get in touch so that I can send you things like tuning guides; I can also help with new sails. Our Nationals are in Edinburgh in July. Why not come along? Even if you don't bring the boat you could at least see the leading sailors in the fleet and get some ideas. Where are you racing your Soling at the moment? Hoping to hear from you soon, Iain Loudon iainloudon@aol.co.uk 0131 467 9015 0773 324 3895 |
