Hey joe and lefty,
First off, i would like to state that i think both of you are very talented artists. I think you both have a lot of skill and an inspational artistic vision. I, myself, have just recently began exploring the world of spray paint art and find myself inspired by your exhibits of excellence. I have three questions for you:
What type of bristol board do you use?
I am very impressed by the rocks/mountains that one of you did in the painting with the three crosses. I find rocks are the hardest thing to depict... How do you do that?
Do you have any advice generally for a newbe spray painter?
Thanks again, your art has truely caught my eye like no other,
Jason

Hey Jason, Thank you for the complements.
First and foremost I think it is important to protect your self. You need to find a liquid glove like Gloveinabottle.com and get or wear a good respirator. Rocks seem difficult to a lot of people. I create the edge of the rocks with my thumb nail through typing paper as I drag my nail to make the edge the paper drags and scrapes in the inner rock pattern. We like a double sided glossy poster board. although one sided will do nicely.

Hey again,
I appreciate how quickly you responded. As far as the gloves go, if i wear a good pair of latex gloves as opposed to the liquid gloves, do you think i should be alright? I have gotten a respirator, but i am unsure how often i should replace the filters of it. Thanks for the advice about the rocks, I have found most of the techniques have come fairly naturaly to me, accept this one. By the way, what brand of bristol board paper do you use?/where do you by it?
Cheers,
Jason

Latex gloves will stick to the painting if you touch it. I find the best tools for making a painting is the figures. Latex will tear quickly when mixed with spray paint and gloves in a bottle can go all the way up the arm and never be felt or detected. You could handle poison Ivy with them on. I get my poster Board from a Whare house in Orlando, FL. I will be happy to email you that info. Click my link and ask again. The 11x14 paper at dollar general is sometimes coated on one side and ten for $1.
Rocks are tough at first. Some time you have to obsess about things like rocks or clouds untill you have tried every possible way you can think to make em.

Hey Joe,
I know exactly what you mean about the obsessing untill you get it! As for the bristol board warehouse information, its unnecessary, Im a little far away. I actually live in Canada, and besides people that have travelled to mexico, so far it seems no ones heard of spray paint art. All the more awe and shock when they see a painting! :) Do you ever get ligt headed when you use your respirator? (i do) im not sure if its a leak, and im inhaling the fumes, or if its that im inhaling smaller breathes because of the thick filters making it harder to breathe in... what did you mean by "the best thing to use for making a painting is figures"?..
gonna go paint, peace..

I meant fingers, to make the patterns in water rather than a scraper. it is softer. Mask leaks can be seen usually blue paint engs up around the nose. Try cupping your hands over the filters and breathing in. It shouldn't let you get any air and suck tight against your face if it fits right and is functioning properly.
