In many SF shows, you'll sometimes see scenes of interior structural damage to spaceships and space stations with girders and ceilings caving in. Yet despite all that, rarely does it result in the loss of atmosphere in that part of the ship or station. Some SF fans have suggested that such spaceships and space stations have some sort of self-sealing system within the bulkheads or some such thing. That does sound credible to me, but not entirely. Could there be any other explanations (beside the "it's just a TV show" one)?
