What sucks about scientific illiteracy is that the only folks who think it's important are those who know science. And since those who know science are in the minority, the majority often considers the science-educated minority to be wrong by virtue of their minority. Whatever. But I have to ask why should people who know virtually nothing about science have a say in scientific issues? For example, syndicated columnist Molly Ivins (whose knowledge of science is probably equal to the number of Earth bases on Mars) inaccurately claimed that there is no evidence disputing global warming. And yet an article in Final Frintier magazine reported on scientific evidence disputing global warmimg (I'm not saying there's no global warming. I'm just saying that it makes no sense for Ivins to make her claim without attribution.) So that's how it works. The "right" to be ignorant makes the justification for science literacy "unjustified." Just further proof of how backward this so-called "society" is.
