If I had a big wad of money, one thing I'd like to do with it is establish a huge scientific research institute that would help make life more like science fiction. My research institute would focus on things like: cheap access to space that would make $10 a pound launches possible; artificial gravity, both the centrifical version and the electromagentic version; gene therapy that works; artificial biospheres that work; nanotechnology that works; nuclear fusion, perhaps muon catalyzed; organ regeneration as a permanent replacement for organ transplants. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know! This stuff sounds impossible and stuff. But, as I like to say about such things, I can fantasize about it, can't I? |
