I have started to build a home theater! The framwork has been completed as alsoalmost all the wiring I've had the electrical inspector pass the rough wiring now I have to call the blding inspector to approve the framing so I can start sheet rocking! my projection booth is going to be equiped with 16mm,slide projector, 8mm/super8mm sound and and a celing mounted DLP projector 16.9 native (wide screen ratio) i am also installing cable/phone line plus a couple of other type of connections for future expansion! i have a 25 foot through from booth to where screen will be located this weekend I'm hooking uup 12g speaker wire. I plan on having the speakers mounted in the walls 3 in front 2 in the rear and subwoofer off to one side. my seating arrangment will be that of 9 theater style seats which will be stadium mounted each row 6 inches higher than the one in front.I have all my dimmer switches in place to controll any lighting effect I have 3 recessed screen/stage lights 4 wall sconces and "house lights" I also plan on getting some "rope" type Isle runner lights. The screen I hope to have from da-lite a perforated wall mounted with automated masking and curtains. color schemes I would like are cranberry/red in that spectrum any thoughts on color schemes I am open to ideas and was hoping for some help.Bill - |

Hi Bill! Your new theater sounds great! I wish you the best of luck! My own theater is equipped for 16mm, Super 8 and digital projection with my Sharp PG-M20X. Mine is more along the lines of a screening room with a 15 foot throw from booth to screen, but I can still cram seven or eight "Rialto Regulars" in there comfortably. You can see some photos of mine at: http://www.filmclassic.com/RothRialto.htm I am the former owner of Filmclassic, but the new owner, my friend Ray Healy, has kept my theater page intact. I'll eventually update the photos to show the digital projection set-up and move the page to my Reelclassicdvd site. I think if you're going for the true "theater look", the cranberry/red scheme should do just fine. http://www.reelclassicdvd.com |

Mark,What color should I paint the ceiling?and what type of wall covering should I place on the walls? I've been looking on line for carpeting and found some great carpet for my lobby/consession area has a print of a "generic" looking coke cup popcorn box with popcorn all over the carpet and ticket stubs. |

Hi Bill,Wall covering and ceiling are mostly a matter of taste, but might be dictated by how dark you can make the room. If achieving enough darkness presents a problem (especially during daylight hours) you'll probably want to stick with darker colors for the walls and ceiling. In my case, achieving darkness was no problem, but the room is small, so I stuck with light colors to give the room a more open, larger feel. The carpet with the movie theater motif sounds neat! Where did you find it? http://www.reelclassicdvd.com |
