Last weekend, July 24-26 2009, Larisa and I got the pleasure of riding to Libby MT and participating in the Libby Church of the Nazarene's FIRST annual Christian bikers bash. Friday's ride over was a fast paced trip across I-90 into Coeur d'Alene, then up 95. We had a nice meal in Sand Point, ID. We took off from Sand Point and headed up to Bonner's Ferry. I had just started to pass this old van when the sky opened up and it was pouring on us. Larisa started laughing rather hard, I asked what was so funny and she replied, "I had just asked God to cool it down a bit, but this isn't what I had in mind".From Bonners Ferry we took 2 into Libby. Friday night was just for registration and meeting up with the pastor and a couple of the church members. Saturday started out with a great breakfast; pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy. This was supplied and cooked up by some good folks from the church. We then had a short meeting and a prayer for our ride. Pastor Don (Larisa's uncle) almost didn't make it thru this as he choked up a little, you could tell that he was pleased that 36 bikes had shown up for event. Bikes and riders came from all over MT (including the Pastor of the Nazerene church in Victor MT) and as far away as Boise ID and of course, Larisa and I riding up from Bonney Lake. We rode 75 miles up the east side of Lake Koocanusa, a reservoir behind Libby Dam that goes all the way up into Canada, and on into Eureka MT to the park and museum there. Some church members had left early and had a lunch spread out for us in the park. After lunch and a bit of time checking out the history of the area, we all mounted back up and rode down the west side of the lake back into Libby. This was a great ride down the "old Haul" road. Quite twisty and a bit bumpy, but was an awesome time. Pastor Don rode up next to us and you should have seen the grin on his face that took up the entire opening of his helmet. We got back to the church and were all very hot plus we had some time to ourselves, so L and I went to the motel to partake in the A/C there. We went back to the church at 6:30 PM and had dinner of roasted pig that had been on the spit most of the afternoon, fantastic! After supper, we had the privilege of hearing Michael Ginn speak. Mike had some "baggage" from rough past and then a coming to th Lord that fit into the makeup of the weekend. Mike stood up and said I would like to start with a little reading from God's Word. He then recited Matthew 4,5 & 6 (the Sermon on the Mount) from memory. He went on to speak about his life and what had led him to the Lord. Sunday morning came around and we were back at the church for an outdoor service with about 150 people present. Mike Ginn again did a masterful job with his speaking. L and I got the pleasure of having lunch with Pastor Don, Aunt Debbie and other family there. We then took off and rode over to Kalispell, down the west side of Flathead Lake, then down to I-90 at St Regis MT. We rode on into Wallace, ID on 90 and spent the night there. We got up Monday and leisurely rode back thru the high 90 degree temps until we reached home. Hot, but happy to have had such a great ride and to have been part of the "FIRST Annual Kootenai Biker Bash". Feel free to ask me in person more about this trip and I hope that "Thunder in the Valley" can have a much bigger impact next year.
