A point for the League Committee to perhaps consider and for anyone else who wishes to comment. If a group stage is really necessary in the Challenge Cup, would it not be more practical for teams to play all their three group games at one of the group venues on one night? Some teams struggle to provide their regular team on Wednesday evenings and to condense the group stage into one night will serve not to prolong the competition. To accommodate the fixtures, the first match(es) could begin half an hour to an hour earlier.Just a thought.

I prefare the present format, this used to be a straight knockout, the group stages were introduced to give all teams a minimum of games. Partcipation is voluntary so if you cannot get a team together on a Wednesday you don't have to take part. We look at it as a chance to see new teams and new venues, although for some reason we always end up with the same team in our group.

I am by no means criticising the format and believe a group stage is a good idea.I also take Keith's point about new venues. However,I also think playing the group games on one night could generate some excitement and by the end of the evening teams will know whether or not they have any further interest in the competition.

WITH ONLY A FEW THIRD DIVISON AND NOT MANY MORE SECOND DIVISION TEAMS ENTERING. THE WHOLE THING IS FIRST DIVISION ORIENTATED. FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS OUR TEAM WHO WERE IN THE THIRD DIVISION KEPT GETTING DRAWN AGAINST FIRST DIVISION OPPOSITION SO WE NEW THAT WE WOULD ULTIMATLEY FINISH UP IN THE PLATE HAVING PLAYED THREE GAMES WERETHE QUESTIONS JUST NEVER SUITED US.SO WHY NOT GO BACK TO STRAIGHT KNOCK OUTTHEN IF BY SOME MIRACLE WE MANAGE TO BEAT A FIRST DIVISION TEAM WE WILL AT LEAST ENJOY THAT AND LOOK FOREWARD TOMEETING ANOTHER FIRST DIVISION TEAM.THAT WAY WE GET TWO GAMES THAT MAY BE JUST THAT BIT INTERESTING. IF WE LOSE THE FIRST ONE THEN WE GO INTO THE PLATE AND MEET ANOTHER FIRST DIVISION TEAM.A STRAIGHT KNOCKOUT HAS TO BE BETTER THAN THIS RIDICULOUS CHIRADE OF PROLONGING THE ULTIMATE RESULT.

I can partly sympathise with Andy's views.Perhaps a divisional group stage or handicap could be considered. Then again a straight handicapped knock-out would be the ultimate compromise.
