San Antonio has seen a little Texas history, now they saw a little K9 PRO SPORTS history! So how do you have an historical moment? Well, first you have to be around long enough to have a history. Next you have to have a moment where something worth noting has gone on. I think second generation winners from former K9PS champions would qualify. First it means we have been around long enough to be competing second generations. Second it means the abilities of our past Champions are being passed on and are worth noting for a lot of reasons. So here's what happened. In 2003 on the way to winning the BUCKLE, a blue Dobe named Tyco bruised and surprised, with his intensity, every decoy he encountered. The obedience and teamwork exhibited with his handler, Stacy Bills left the judges as impressed as the decoys had been. On Sat. last, at NODIB Kennel, in Devine, Tx., we saw a young son of Tyco step on the field with his 14 year old, that's right, FOURTEEN year old handler/trainer, Paige Ustanik, and remind us of the old saying “like father, like son”! It was not a flawless performance, though the teamwork of these two was impressive. It was not the bone bruising bites of his dad, although FR & K9PS decoy Arturo Terrazos was surprised at the pressure from the young dog. It was a good solid performance from a young handler and second generation dog that made a statement to every one of the old and new competitors there. “Watch out for the youngster and her partner. They finished second in the PP division behind none other than Orlando Nunez and his good Mal, Soldier. Don't we all wish we could have finished second place behind an accomplished MWD professional when we were fourteen? With ten teams in the race we had a great variety of breeds and the crowd got their moneys worth, with the Cane Corsos and Great Danes as well as the GSDs', and Mals'. Roy Rojas, and his Cane Corso, Tito, left no doubt in the mind of the herder fans that a well bred athlete is an athlete, no matter the breed. Tito had never seen a suit and Roy was worried the dog might not respond to the agitator. He underestimated the natural responsibility of the Mastiff and this great breed.. When threatened by the decoy Tito took all one hundred plus pounds down the field as fast as any dog had done the entire day, engaged, and went into a whirling dirvish that left decoy Joe Phitink trying to find the gate on the wrong end of the field. Professional handler/breeder Tina Nevilles, hosted a trial that showed all the K9PS members that if they don't step up in training, some one with experience and imagination will throw more at you than most dogs can ever get by. With hay houses and live cats for distractions the only thing as spicy as the trial was the Bar-B-Q brisket, sausage, and chicken her crew dished out at lunch (save me some of that sausage Tina) . So we look ahead to May 6, Comanche, Tx. Will the veterans take it all? Will the kid step into the lead? Will the Mastiffs show the world why they were the original guard dog? Find out. BE THERE BABY!! http://www.k-9kountry.nu |

Well done Butch and pro sport! we down here in Australia still have aims of putting on K9 ps trials and making a trip to the US final the prize, but we have few people and a large country, hard getting enthusiasts together as we cant advertise much because of the Dangerous Dog act here scares people from coming to train their dogs, we continue to try and educate and hope one day to have an Aussie rep over there competing, regards all |
