My McNamara family arrived in SA on board the HOOGHLY in 1846 – it consisted of three siblings:Mary McNAMARA, who married a JOHN HAYES in County CLARE, Ireland prior to departure. They travelled on the HOOGHLY with their son MORTIMER HAYES.Two of MARY’S brothers accompanied them on the voyage – PATRICK MCNAMARA who married a MARY DONNELLY in SA in about 1850. - I have found some of the descendents.JOHN MCNAMARA – of whom I know very little at all.PATRICK’s family ended up raising PATRICK THOMAS HAYES – who was the second born son of MARY and JOHN HAYES (nee MCNAMARA). MARY died supposedly during childbirth and JOHN soon left his family in search of Gold in the Victorian Goldfields – never to be heard from again, in the 1850’s.

Dear Ashe,I could not believe it when I just saw your message. When the original Hayes book was published the author and I used to help each other out. I am a descendant of Patrick McNamara. Even though I do not have a great deal more on the Hayes family any little thing I came across I entered. It would be great to catch up & share info. Am still pottering with Patrick's info - have not finished it due to lack of time and got burnt out when we did the Fitzgerald BookChris Gill

Patrick McNamaras brother James married a Catherine Stanley who was a witness at my great grandfathers wedding (James Featherston (then "haugh")) married her niece Mary Ann Stanley - Catherine's residence was Manoora). Tracing it back Patrick McNamara had married Mary Donnelly. Ellen Evans (James F's "single" mother) and Mary appear to have been lifelong friends from the Mary Dugdale in 1840. In the early 1850's they were in the Hills (Ellen - Kersbrook). By 1854 they are again immediate neighbours (Ellen Woolshed Flat backing onto Mary's property at Undalya.) I am assuming my James F (Catholic) would have gone to school at Undalya in the McNamara home. My question is:Can anyone give me any context information from family sources which can help me understand my families (Ellen Evans (later Griffiths), Stanley, Featherston?
