How would a beginner go about finding (and joining) a coven? I've started learning about Wicca and Magick (with a "k" right?) about a year ago, but a lot of things are still a little unclear to me. I have a couple books for beginners but I don't know if the things I read online are true or false. I know that the ones that are like "OMG Use this spell and you're crush will fall in love with you!!!11!" are deffinatly false and are dangerous! But there are others that seem like they're ok (like gaining confidence and holiday rituals) but I'm not a hundred percent sure. Also, it would be nice to learn first hand. I guess, I want to make sure that the things I'm doing at home are real and I'm not just wasting my time.

A beginner should never practice spells or powerful rituals alone. An experienced practicioner is best to learn from and practice with. Before you get all hyped up about "getting to do spells" and "it'll be just like Sabrina," do your research. Every Pagan/Wiccan is supossed to meditate and learn about the philosophy and values of the path they have chosen for a year and a day. Don't even think about casting until you truely understand the religion. If you don't understand, you'll probably unleash something that you never meant to release. My sister did that while using tarot cards, and she didn't cast a circle or purify the cards. Our dogs were the only ones strong enough to chase it away. We couldn't even seal it back up; it's still running loose. Our cat was even attacked by it. That's what will happen if you don't read up first. Don't make the same mistake as so many foolish teens who become "wiccans" so they can cast spells. It's dangerous stuff.
