Dear Al,Thank you very much for your posting and your US Navy link.I'm very, very sorry not to have replied before, but I'm in the process of creating my own company (in the meantime I must keep working, of course).I include as PS part of my reply to an American who requested me info about Captain Silas Duncan.he is indeed the hero of the 1812 war you mention.Very Best Regards,Javier--------------------------------------PS Thank you very much for your kind interest on Captain Duncan's attack toMalvinas (Falklands) Islands.I include some bibliography about the matter, mostly in Spanish but some in English too. I also attached related ones, as your countryman David Jewet'sbiography (he was commissioned as an Officer of our Navy and took possession of the islands on our behalf) and a short account of the attack carried out by USS Lexington to the Malvinas, based on Argentinean and US sources. Regarding "maps, images such as echings, lithographs, drawings, paintings; related to this event, of and or including participants, ships, place involved", I mention you some of them and whom you should address to obtain a copy and authorisation to publish them.I hope this information will be useful for you, though I’m afraid that the whole incident of Malvinas doesn’t trough any favourable light over Captain Duncan’s behaviour. Anyway, what happened, happened. Unhappy things have been done by brave men and by each and every country in this world of us and your country (like mine) and its heroes is no exception to that rule. I’ve tried to visit the US Duncan site (http: // www. ussduncan. Org / users / visaliakid / Duncan2 / index. htm ) without success. Is the address correct? Regarding your 1812 war against Britain, I’m afraid I know only the master lines of it. May be you could find interesting an article in the National Geographic Magazine dated March 1983 ( “Ghost Ships of the War of 1812”) about schooners “Hamilton” and “Scourge”, both sunk by a sudden squall on Lake Ontario. Please, don’t hesitate to contact me should you need any other information or should you think I could be of any help.Sincerely YoursJavier PS: I think that to use “Falklands/Malvinas” instead of “Falklands” in any correspondence with Argentine institutions will induce people to feel more co-operative. It would look like you have a “neutral” stand in the islands dispute. The islands are very dear to Argentineans hearts. You can also look for them at the Museo Histórico Nacional, the Biblioteca Nacional (Argentinean National Library) and the Biblioteca del Congreso (Argentinean Congress Library). The same institutions should have plenty of your requested data. Both libraries have several millions books each to be consulted, as well as newspapers and chart collections, etc. May be you can find something at the Museo Naval de la Nación (Argentinean Naval Museum), though I think it is not too probable. You could also consult the Archivo General de la Nación (National Archives), but the documentation you can find there is surely compiled in the above listed "Colección de documentos relativos a la historia de las Malvinas.
