Ernie:About what you said to Paco. Do you really think that a country like Argentina, absolutely self-sufficient really needs money from other countries? In fact the world is so crazy that a couple of little islands like the UK are part of the G-8 and such a big country like Argentina, with all the climates, good lands, and a big lenght is trying to go out of a terrible default. The money lended/borrowed is just a political trick to make countries stay poor and in debt in order to control them. Of course the fault is still ours. We have had corrupted politicians that, for some money, played this game with the tyrans of the world. If a really patriotic person would took power, close the frontiers of our country for a year, and didnt let anything except medicines come in the country, Argentina would be one of the richest countries in the world.....we have everything and nothing belongs to us anymore...such a pity..Noelia http://espanglishfriends.tripod,com http;//www.geocities.com/nxz1978 |

Noelia,I count Paco as a Forum friend and was only teasing him. I am sure he will come back to me and give me as good as I gave him. There is no animosity between us.You have largely answered your own question about finances. The UK has in the past been in a position where it has had to go to the IMF to ask for massive support so don't think Argentina is alone or that G8 countries are exempt from financial problems. You probably do not remember this episode in UK history. These days countries are so interdependent where commerce and finance is concerned that their reliance on each other is so great that 'going it alone' is not really an option or even a possibility. Probably not one for Argentina to seriously consider either. You are right about corruption being a big problem for Argentina, though you are not alone in this, there is always corruption in every country but it is how it is dealt with that matters. Once a culture of corruption is established it is very difficult to get out of it because people become reliant on their own particular scam.Massive public corruption in the UK is very unlikely to succeed as our society is too open and under constant scrutiny from the media for crooked practices to go unnoticed or unreported for very long. It does happen of course.I agree with you that your country has massive potential, which I hope one day will be realised in your favour.Among the reasons for Falkland Islanders not being cooperative with your country is that very corruption and their fear of being ivolved in your way of life. (as they see it). It is difficult to engender trust when they see such a displayed picture of a way of life that is so strange and alien to them.Of course I know that not everybody is corrupt, but it is the bad press that is seen by the world, the good things are seen less well. For instance K's policy of not allowing charter fights and trying to force islanders into cooperating and agreeing with his objectives can only be seen by them as the action of an unfriendly bully, almost gangster type tactics of saying if you don't do as I say then I will do my best to ruin your way of life. This is certainly not the way to win friends and influence people.Naturally Di Tella's way of seduction was equally stupid, sending Winnie the Poo books could only be an insult to anybodys intelligence and surely caused a great deal of laughter and amusement. The better way to impress would be to treat Islanders a people who were equals by way of intelligence and ability rather than patronising or threatening them. If you can convince people that you are no different to them and appreciate their position by wanting to work with them rather than forcing them or ignoring them you are more likely to impress and go some way to achieving your objectives.Best wishes,Ernie |

Hi Ernie,First of all sorrry about my poor English. I think you are good people and i agree with you in all items that you have written on this topic, we could talk a lot about economy, globalization, global situation, corruption, etc; but you are wrong when you talk about Malvinas, because you are not Argentine, your culture is diferent, and you never going to understand what we feell and what we think about it, our society is diferent than yours. i cant know what French people have feeled and thought when the Germans occupied France in World War 2, i think taht they have feeled very bad, but i cant feel like French becouse im not one, becouse i was not there, and, i dont think like a French becouse im not French.Malvinas is part of Argentinians culture, in argentina all te citizens know what malvinas is, Malvinas are not part of the English culture, most English dont know what Falklands are or they know that Falklands are a little cuple of islands in some place of the world In midle east when you makes a robbery, they cut you hands, for the occidental people (you and me) this is extremly bad, but not for them, for them it is normalBest regards |
