We are getting another English setter, to join our 16mth old boy, which has been planned for some time... What I would really like to know is, will there be jealousy and any other likely problems? My boy loves other dogs, but yet to have one in his home!! He is not neutered and I am getting another boy, as I know neutering affects the coat of the setter and Es are not that dominant! I ask also cos I have not owned more than the one dog before!! Any help gratefully received!! |

Hi ClaireWe've been recuing setters since the early 1980's and almost always have 2 in the house. When we lose one we are fortunate enough ESRA allows us to adopt another. There has never been any problems at all so I'm sure they'll settle in together very quickly. Our vet always told us to feed the incumbent dog first but these 'guys' are such gentlemen you'll soon find 2 heads in one bowl without any problems. Good luck with the new boy! |

Hi there! Hope all is still well in theSetter household - apart from a little ear-hanging fun which I guess is par for the course! We have seven 'English' of mixed ages and gender and all get on extremely well, in fact they are very close and loving in their relationships. They have joined us at various stages in their life from puppies to retired show dogs -and none of the boys were neutured. Even bringing older 'top dog' status boys into the pack has caused no problems and they all accept and even welcome a new member into the pack. That's English Setters for you! Maybe you would like to take a look at our Pack on my web site. http://http://www.ninagreen.co.uk/index.php English Setter Pack pics etc and the book about their adventures |

Wow, that post was quite old, my boys are nearly 4yrs and 3 yrs old now!! Time has flown by!! They have been joined by a Pointer now 14mths and an Irish aged 7 years, all get on, all superb temperements and welcome doggy guests with open arms, we are currently looking after a 8yr old English for a friend whilst on holiday and they adore their new playmate!! |
