Just to keep a fair sided balance on this subject - you can't go against facts like this one!
I would also like to point out from a previous comment made by me - you do not have a fair and impartial forum any more. I refuse to join up to your new forum on the basis that you will the use my name as a person against fortnightly collections.

Happy New Year AC.
The new forum allows you to post as a guest and there is no requirement for registration or for you to join our Campaign.
The link you gave me refers to WEEE. I'm not sure whether you meant to link to the story from Kesteven Council where they say rat sightings have decreased since AWCs. I immediately checked the Council's website and found they charge £33 for up to 3 visits (pest control) for the treatment of rats and mice. If these treatments were free of charge prior to the introduction of AWCs no comparison can be made. The CIEH has urged councils not to charge fees for exactly this reason - when people realise they have to pay, they tend to buy poison to treat the problems themselves. Councils who charge have no idea of the true problems in their area.

Just for reference - I have tried to post as a guest - but will not allow me to do so unless I log in. Maybe you would care to try it yourself!

We are looking into this and hope to be able to allow a guest to post without having to register. Thank you for alerting us to the problem.

So? What are fortnight collections responsible for? I don't understand this thread.

Councillor Cooke - please see this link

which was posted on our current forum and to which AC refers. The National Pest Technicians' Association Report states a number of factors for the increase in brown rats, one being fortnightly rubbish collections. We have always said it is a combination of factors but unfortunately local and national government continue to ignore the warning signs. Charging fees for rat treatments leads to non-reporting of sightings and residents try to treat problems themselves.
