Thanks to BBC Radio Nottingham for inviting me to take part in a debate on fortnightly collections. Residents there are battling odour, fly and maggot problems and they are not alone. All over the UK in areas where general waste is collected only once a fortnight, people are experiencing the same problems even though they take care to wrap waste food carefully before placing it in the bin. One expert has stated that there is a health risk: http://www.petersfield.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=469&ArticleID=1653022 |

Doretta, could you post a link to the show? It should be on the BBC website and it would be entertaining to listen to it. Also, the link to the Petersfield thing only shows a synopsis of the story. Nonetheless, I was able to get hold of a copy of the full article and, perhaps unsurprisingly, the expert doesn't actually say that there is a health risk with fortnightly waste collections. Next let the facts stand in the way of a good story eh? |

Apologies, the final sentence should say: Never let the facts get in the way of a good story eh? |
