Gary Wayne Buchanan was a good friend. We attended technical college together in Okla. Gary was killed in action 11/26/1969. Can anyone provide me details of the circumstances? I understood that he had volunteered to be a helicopter door gunner. I also served in RVN from 1969 to 1971 with the Corps of Engineers. Thank you.

I was in the same platoon as Gary. I was right near him on that day and very aware of the circumstances that took his life. He truly was a hero.

I first met Gary in August of 1966 at Oklahoma State Tech (Okmulgee) where he had both enrolled in Building Construction Tech. Gary and I hung out together and become good friends. We both graduated in the Spring of 1968 and both lost our student deferrments. I joined the Army Corps of Engineers and ended up in RVN in November of 1969. I assume Gary was drafted. I first learned of his death after I had been in country for about one month. If you are comfortable with describing it, I would like to hear about his heroism. If not, I fully understand.

I knew Gary well, he was a machine gunner in our sqaud. Like Eric said he was a hero. If you want email me and I'll tell you what I remember to the best of my ability after all these years.
