Hi, I read your frequently asked questions and I'm not sure why Bill lied and said that the song, My Girl was a figment of his imagination. He knows darn well that Brian wrote that song about me. Bill's memory is shot from all the years of partying way too hardy. Stll, he should not be trying to take credit for something he didn't write.

The story behind the song, MY GIRL written by Brian MacLeod of the band CHILLIWACK. I lived in Vancouver from 1976 until 1979. I was working two jobs; modeling and waitressing and dating Brian MacLeod from the band Chilliwack. One day my sister called and needed my help badly. She was about to give birth to my niece and she needed help with running a household and a business, for the father was of no help at all. Brian and I had just had a disagreement and I thought it was over. So I left and didn't tell anyone where I was going. Brian looked for me for a year while brokenhearted. He then wrote this song in 1980. It was released in 1981. It wasn't until a couple of years later in 1983 that I ran into Brian backstage at the Concert Hall here inWinnipeg when he was playing with a band called HEADPINS. They were warming up for my friend Tom Cochrain's band. When Brian saw me he grabbed my arm and wouldn't let go until I explained why I left with out saying good bye. Doug Cadell even said is everything okay here?He was a lightman friend of mine from here in Winnipeg, and he was watching out for me. Brian asked me to stay because he had to go play, but said he had something to tell me. Later he told me about the song he wrote about me. It was the song "MY GIRL" written when he was still with the band CHILLIWACK.Afterwards, we went back to my place. I had a lovely apartment at the time way up in a highrise in downtown Winnipeg, The Chateau 100! Anyway, I had the record, and Brian wrote on the album jacket, and we played the song, and that was when I realized the depth of his heartbreak. I listened and noticed the howling sound in the song was the same one he use to make when he came to my duplex in Vancouver. In Vancouver I lived up on the second floor and he would make that noise so I would know he was there. The house was 649 Bute, and it is still standing there today as a heritage home. Brian and I both cried that night and held each other for a longtime and I realized how much I had hurt him. Brian was a good man, but cancer consumed him in 1992, when he was only 40 yrs old. The song still makes me cry when I listen to it. I went to see the band, TORONTO a couple of years ago because CHILLIWACK's old base player Ab Bryant was playing with them. It was so nice to see AB! He took me aside and hugged me and we both said we missed Brian a lot, but the funny thing was when he introduced me to the band. He said "this is my girl," and they said, "we are really happy for you Ab." And he said "no no you don't understand, this is the girl from the song, MY GIRL." Well everybody got up and shook my hand and stuff it was really nice.So yes I do have a classic rock song written about me.Unfortunately I hurt someone in the process.Sincerely,Vicki Poirier, B.Ed.Winnipeg, Manitoba

Hi Vicki,Like the song 'My Girl' very much, but seems like a lot of girls(guys) who dated musicians (from yester year) want to take credit for a song being about them. A lot of those women (and men)wish they were still in some sort of limelight. They re in a fantasy world, sort of.I could write a book about Chilliwack and their band, but I'll get to point. No 1: The band('70 thru '77) was the real Chilliwack. Loved the album 'Dreams Dreams Dreams'. After that album, replacements came into band (such as Brian MacLeod), and the music took a dive.I mean, ever listen to album 'Breakdown in Paradise??'. Losing original members such as Howard Froese hurt music. (the hits were OK, but albums suffered. So, for you to put down Bill Henderson is a joke, considering without him, no one would even know BrianMacLeod.Chilliwack was a stepping stone for him to join Headpins. Ohh, one more thing. Are you also the girl behind the song 'Hold On'??????

Today I saw the video for the song. This was the first time I have. I liked that song It reminds me of spring because that year I heard it alot then on the radio. It was the summer of my 8th grade year in middle school and my girlfriend left me for a fat guy who's dad had a golf course. I think this woman is also the girl from the Northern Pikes song "She Aint pretty she just looks that way. It was a good story and it could be true and only the person who wrote it really knows.Take Care Everyone!Todd LivengoodCleveland OHHome of the House Of ROCK

You guys can disagree all you want, but just let me say that the song is not about me. I count "My Girl" as one of my top 25 favorite songs of all time. Maybe it's just the great memories it brings up, maybe it's just a great song. I don't know. Here in Kansas City, we didn't hear much of Chilliwack. In fact, this is the only song I know by them (sad to say). Does anyone know where I can hear their music online?

Chilliwack was pretty big in St. Louis, songs like Fly By Night and Lonesome Mary got alot of air time on KSHE 95. You can still get songs from www.imesh.com if they have something on print songs cost .99 cents. There is also a place in St. Louis called The Disc Connection, they sell old albums and CD from the underground rock generation wich most of us came. Great story :)

why don't they pronounced the words correctly. Gun, Gung, Gung she's been Gung so long....The word is Gone. I suggest the band get back together and record it right.

I really have doubts that song was written for you Vicki. no offence but if it was true then why didnt Brian track you down like its written in the song. 2-3 years went by before you ran into him at a concert? He surely would have found you before then if he wanted to. Nice story though :)

Brian told me he wrote parts of this song back in Newfoundland about a girl he loved. At the time for other resons she ran away from home to Vancouver. As the lyric go, my girl, she ment the world to me, my girl has gone across the sea. And years later he put the song together with Bill.In 1991 he wrote another song about the same girl 'Queen of Heart' as she came out visit him. This song is on the album 'Chrissy Steels'and was change to 'King of Hearts' as Brian was getting sick and could not perform it, so it was perfomed by a women Chrissy Steele.Saturday April 25 it will be 17 years since he passed from cancer two months before his 40th birthday. His Dad passed from cancer when he was 40.Brian was deeply loved, am amazing musican and friend.Brian you are Greatly missed.
