Does anybody besides me think that it is interesting that Opem door is not in the top ten?
puma posted 1/5/06 4:05 PM
no, I don't think it's that interesting. What has open door done to deserve to be in the top ten in the nation?

how many of those top 10 teams have you seen quiz? I'm assuming you have seen open door quuz since you thought they'd be in the top 10. But have you seen the others?
Jade posted 1/5/06 7:33 PM
Well I thought we already argued about this extensively, but for what it's worth I don't think they should have been on the list. They still haven't appeared in a big tournament and done well, or beaten a top level team consistenly.

guess no ones interested thumper

is open door coming to NYC? if they are they will have a chance to prove their worth. if they can make the top ten at athens, then they can be a ligitimate top ten team.- until then- no way!!!!!!
alex posted 1/21/06 3:39 PM
Well,we got 9th at NYC and we beat Faith 3 times as well as Heritage ,Calvery and Valley.I think we are Legit
redneck posted 1/21/06 10:57 PM
are you guys the one with a third-grader on the team? by the way you may have beaten valley, faith 3 times, and heritage, but they all finished higher than you. At the end of the day you weren't better than any of the three teams you just named
no-name posted 1/22/06 0:40 AM
Nor Calvary, after all, they placed higher at Athens and they were the team that eleminated Open Door.

And your point is? Open Door is on the new rankings (9th, I believe) because they quizzed well at Athens (9th, to be exact). There is not a team that can fairly replace Open Door on the top ten list.
alex posted 1/24/06 0:56 AM
Just in case you were talking badly about "that third grader," unless your name is Katherine or Abby, she beat you quite soundly at NYC. And while those other teams finished better than us overall, we showed that we could compete.

i don't know if you showed that you could compete, but your right 3rd grader proved she could compete. i'll give ya that
Thumper posted 1/24/06 8:33 PM
I agree that open door can compete. And though gracie ( thats "that third grader, redneck) is a serious competitor, I think she somewhat carries their team. Yet Christain Minor is pretty good to
Just Wondering posted 1/24/06 8:40 PM
What about Alex? Although he didn't do his best at NYC he still made a large contribution.
Thumper posted 1/24/06 10:25 PM
ALex has his days were he is good, but I quiz against him all the time, and he's not as consistent as gracie or christain. But I won't say that he doesn't ever help his team.

Has days when he's good!cmmon! Alex finished 3,2,4,13 and 16th in the Fl quizes, that seems pretty consistent to me
Former ODHEF person posted 1/25/06 2:21 AM
In defense of Open Door they finished runner-up to FBC-CF twice and finished third, fourth and fifth in Fl competitions while placing 9th at a national event that constitutes "top ten" in my book.
oh shut up posted 1/26/06 1:53 PM
I don't understand. At first I thought you were being sarcastic (Alex from 3 to 16 is not consistent). Then you say their good based on florida stuff. WHy?
Fire posted 1/26/06 11:06 PM
Hmmm. Interesting. Yes, Open Door should be in the Top Ten and yes, Grace is amazing BUT... personal rankings only account for so much at Athens. There, where so many teams are stacked with more than one great quizzer on each team, a great quizzer (say, Aaron Wells)can easily be beaten in rankings by another one (say, Grace) who has fewer great teammates. Don't get me wrong: Grace may be very good. But you cannot convince me that she is better than Aaron Wells or even than his sister Autumn. If each were on separate teams, they would have probably placed higher than Grace. Remember, quizzers cannot "reap" the errors of their teammates and gain themselves points. Anyway, Alex, nobody was 'talking bad' about your sister. I think "redneck" was simply trying to identify your team. In any case, Thumper, I was under the impression that Florida teams usually stick together, encourage one another and support each other on the national scene, not to mention the message board. It surprises me that you would say something like that about Alex. I guess you can just hide behind your assumed name...
Former ODHEF person posted 1/27/06 0:13 AM
My point was " oh shut up" that Alex finished in the top 3 out of five quizes and had one bad day (ps. 16th isn't that bad)
Fire Extinguisher posted 1/27/06 2:02 AM
Of course we stick together! Do you have a problem with a truthful comment? After all: Alex can quiz all day long with an amazing record, or sometimes he can quiz very badly. Is this a smear, no, it's simply part of the purpose that this board wasn't created, to discuss quizzing and quizzers. I think Alex is a great quizzer, but lately he has simply been erratic. (PS. What's with your assumed name?)
Fire Extinguisher posted 1/27/06 2:04 AM
I meant to say "the reason the board was created," not, "wasn't created."

Fire Extinguisher posted 1/27/06 3:44 PM
Was that supossed to have anything to do with the subject at hand?
THumper posted 1/27/06 4:21 PM
So sorry Alex. I got a carried away. . WE all have good days and bad days, and you do better than me most of the time, so I really don't have the right to rank your skill.AGain SO sorry.
Fire posted 1/28/06 2:31 AM
Hey Fire Extinguisher! It seems that you did not understand what I was trying to say: I'm not trying to stomp on anybody's right to free speech. But just how big is the Florida field? I'm under the impression, based on biblequizzer.net commentaries, that there are only a few teams that go to the monthly FQA competitions ("quiz against him all the time"). So that narrows down "Thumper" to someone from FBCCF or Calvary. When you have an idea about who EXACTLY is making unflattering comments about you online, it makes their criticism (however constructive) that much more personal. I would wonder who it is that smiles and shakes my hand after a quiz and later talks about me on the Board. I don't mean to take up an offense for Alex. Nor am I trying to stifle the opinions of others. But I do appreciate Thumper's last post: it seems Florida people DO look out for one another!
Fire Extinguisher posted 1/28/06 3:04 AM
Okay, well, sorry about the mix up. Just for your information, Florida teams really do try to stick together. At most all major events you will see our teams gang up together against other state teams. Oh, and another thing, I don't mean to be offensive by my username.
Fire posted 1/28/06 4:08 AM
No problem. And to clear up that whole username thing, I was trying (and failing, it seems) to make a joke about THumper's assumed name: "accusing" him/her of hiding behind it while I'm doing the same! :) By all means, continue to "hide" behind yours... it's a smart one!

Trust me Fire, i have knowwn thumper all my life and she tries to be nice but she has a competative spirtit. I'm not saying that her making fun of Alex was ok, I'm just saying that she finds it hard to Keep her thoughts to herself.
