Steve was a huge influence on my life. Several years back, when I was a mere freshman at Harborfields, I looked up to Steve a great amount...especially when it came to the sport of wrestling. When I entered my freshman year of wrestling, I looked up to my brother, Paul and Steve as if they were superheroes. When they stepped out on the mat, it was such a surreal feeling to watch them wrestle. In the practice room, Steve's light hearted attitude and constant humor made my freshman season an enjoyable one. Because of him, I knew that I wanted to pursue the sport to my full potential. In the offseason, Steve and I would drive across the Island to wrestle at other schools and with other kids at night. I never realized it, but this benefited me tremendously. I now realize that Steve wanted to see me improve as much as possible, whether he said so or not. Even off the mat, Steve always had my back. I can remember one morning I woke up and realized that my mailbox was missing. I immediately called Steve and he came and picked me up. We were on our way to confront those who we thought did it (no names will be mentioned, haha). There is no way I would have done this alone, but with Steve, I felt invincible. Steve's parents were always the kindest, most caring people. Whether it was Mrs. Mally consoling me after a tough loss or Mr. Mally driving me, Steve, and my brother to a tournament across the Island. Steve clearly embodied the values that his parents instilled in him. I am now 21 years old and senior at Oswego State University and I am continuing my wrestling career. To this day, everytime I step on the mat for competition, a thought of Steve crosses my mind. Especially when I win...I owe a small piece of every victory to him. My condolences go out to his family and closest friends.
