Around Valentines Day, my German teacher decided to make us write love poetry. *snort* Not only am I not good at any kind of poetry, but if you "don't feel the love", then you can't write the love. And I hate (hated, actually, since it's OVER!!!) my German class, I didn't take the assignment seriously. Here is my poem, "Reine Liebe", and don't worry, there's a translation provided. And my German in this poem is atrocious. ----------------- Liebe, reine Liebe, ist sehr, sehr schön. Schön wie die kopflose Pelikans mit die verbrannte Hose und die böse Buffalo mit die grosse Fuss. Aber Liebe, reine Liebe, ist nicht so schön als meine Knie. --------------- Rough translation: Love, Pure love, is very, very pretty. Pretty like the headless pelicans with the burnt pants and the angry buffalo with the big feet. But love, pure love, is not as pretty as my knee. ------------ And THAT, my friends, is why I don't write love poems. Well, if you hated German class and didn't put so much effort into it, it's no wonder you weren't happy with the results. I'm sure you would have done much better if your heart had been in it. Actually, I was pretty happy with the way the poem turned out. It gets the reaction I want. I just don't like writing poetry much, especially love poetry. In any language. The German aspect just made it worse. BTW, it's not really the language I have a problem with so much as the class itself. Out of more than six teachers, I only liked one, and he was only around for a semester. Heh! Don't worry, my friend. Although I like writing poetry, I HATE writing love poems, and I've had to do the same in Afrikaans class. 'Write a love poem to your valentine'. I addressed mine to Depth Charge (as, like you, I didn't take it seriously) But I was unaware that the teacher was going to display all the valentines poems around the class room!
