I thought it might be useful to discuss different methods of treatments and advice our vets have given us. Did any particular medication work well for any of the symptoms? My vet attempted to get Susie into remission, has anyone else achieved this?

We lost three to fip . years later I still go out on my deck each night look up at the stars and cry for them . we tried everything , all the drugs heroic measures, and still they left us: Shere khan, Ishtar and Electra, all were stray rescue kitties so loved so special everyone is different, everyone is a gift. last week a rescue kitty my dear sweet Cosmos was diagnosed with precursor symptoms of FIP. Anemia , lack of weight gain, high blood proteins, but has not shown classic symptoms. I am praying so hard. all my rescue kitties are special but she is so special
my husband and I are involved in feral cat rescue. I am a marine chemist. He is a computer science professor we are scientists , and do a lot of research.
I would try viralys by Vet solutions. Hi vit drops, and or Hi cal gel plus a hi potency formulation cat food such as Science diet AD or Royal Canin RS
to help battle anemia and help to boost immune system ( suggested by my vet). I truly believe if you can get them on a high powered diet with supplements it will support their immune system and maybe just maybe they can shake this when it is still feCOv,. Also, if you have not done this yet, go to reputable web sites by vet research clinics, Cornell, Marvista vets, VIN , Dr. Addie, anything by ALIce WOlf DVM. Richard Ford DVM at N.C. state, Julie Levy feline infectious disease specialist at UofF Gainsville Florida,[ etc. You can ask your vet which ones to trust if you bring a list. You will learn that FIP is beleived to be mutation of the feCOV (feline coronavirus) that most cats contract but then shake off and lead normal lives. I am hoping that if the immune system can be supported in early asymptomatic stages is first noticed then possibly the cat can be amoung the ones that shake off this virus and become resistant. I have had a couple of kitties that did just that. One of my cats lost 5 pounds went from (14 to 9) pounds was sick for six months, had to be syringe fed by me several times a day for the entire time with food augmented with supplements and viralys He had a high Fip titer, and was extremely anemic. I talked to as many specialists as I could, went to specialty vet clinics at high powered universities. almost everyone told me that Marble should be euthanized. Today three years later he is back up to 14 pounds. and healthy , happy and frolicking around!****** but please remember that I lost three others and with all the effort, love, prayers and determination, I could not save them. I am a scientist , I truly believe in the power of love, determination, prayer, and education about the issue. dont give up but be ready to let them go when they are ready. I know when I meet my babies again they will tell me that they understood all my efforts and the reason for the medicines, and most of all they will know I love them. please take it heart. my sincerest wishes and prayers.

My kitten Merlin has suspected FIP. He is only three months old. The vet is doing tests and we are giving him anitbiotics. But no suggestion that there is anything else we can try. Keeping my fingers (and everything else) crossed that it's liver disease. At least there's a treatment for that.

Your story begins like my one year old cat Chance. I am coming to grips that he may have dry FIP. I read your story with great heart break, in part and selfishly because I can not bear to go thru what you did and because I wish you didn't go thru you experience with your beloved cat Suzie. I just don't think I can handle it. I am a basket case. We are trying Panacur in the event it is intestinal and paracitic but that is a long shot. The vet said if he does not turn the corner by the weekend it will be a whole new ballgame and she would strongly suspect FIP. What a horrible disease. I want you to know I greatly admire you resolve to beat the disease and your love for your dear Suzie. I do not know if I can be that strong. I would love to hear from you.
