Ruamahunga Kayak Race A beautiful stretch of easy flowing river passing through the Martinborough countryside. This is an ideal race as a build up for the coming kayak season. The first 15kms has a few grade 1 rapids with willows and eddies to keep you on your toes. At the 15km mark there is a short portage to stretch legs have drink while the short course competitors finish. From here its 20kms to go, the rest the river is a lot more sedate with plenty of viewing spots for supporters. Once you go under the road bridge it will be time to dig it in for the final 4kms to the finish. Race Information Race start next to road bridge north of Martinborough. Registrations start at 9am to 9.45am, Briefing at 9.45am. Race start 10am. Cost $10.00 on the day There will be transport available back to start for those without support people, ($5 to driver) but you must ring or e-mail me before Thursday 5th September. There will be a modest prize-giving and lunch at the end of the 35km course for all competitors. Times taken at the Portage and at the end. Buoyancy vests compulsory, helmets encouraged.
