Free agency gets underway tomorrow. As a teaser, here are some clues as to whether or not you will get the player you are hoping for.
----
The players in the most demand were goalie Pekka Rinne and winger Brenden Morrow. Rinne drew 41 years in contract offers. That narrowly edged out Morrow, who drew 40 years in offers. Next closest was winger Jakub Voracek, who was offered 33 years in contracts.
----
Rinne and Morrow also led the way in offers from the most teams, with each drawing offers from 10 teams. Close behind were a pair of defenceman, Nicklas Lidstrom and Ryan Whitney, each drawing interest from nine different teams.
----
How badly did teams want players? The player drawing the highest average contract offer was Jakub Voracek, whose average offer was 5.5 years, which isn't surprising considering he is just 21 years old and already has a 50-point season under his belt. The next highest average offer went to a 33-year-old defenceman, Pavel Kubina. He got an average of 4.17 years. Rinne was slightly behind at 4.1. So sorry, if you didn't offer these guys at least 5, you are out of the running.
----
The last measure of a player's demand: Who was at the top of the wish lists. Defencemen were popular and there was no age discrimmination. 40-year-old Nick Lidstrom was at the top of four teams' list. Voracek and Kubina was next, topping three lists. Rinne was the only other player to top multiple lists. In all, those four players topped 12 of the 13 lists. Morrow was the only other player to top a list.
