Does anyone know where Old Tramway Road is? Is it the unnamed road jutting out from the curve in Grey Street?Does anyone know anything about this particular area?Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Alexander, the old tramway ran from the No2 and 3 mines which were loacated on the Pit Rd and went to theloading wharf at the location of the new fossil center. It worked as an incline plane where loaded coal cars went down hill and empty cars were pulled back to the mine at the same time. I will send you a bit more info later. Dara

If you started at the corner of Main St and the Hardscrabble Rd you can walk along the old tramway road bed until you hit Grey St then follow the tramway to the Lower Cove Rd where the Nova Scotia Power sub station is then it follows the Pit Rd to the site of the old mines. On some old maps it looks as if the line extended almost to the Beech Hill area near River Hebert. I can check into some of my paper work to see if I can find a date of when it was constructed but it was probably built about 1870. An earlier tramway which followed the same path was built about 1840 from the old mine which was located on Grey St to the wharf.
