I recently spoke with a man in Maine who sells rocks, crystals and fossils. I asked him if he had any fossils from Nova Scotia, and he told me that he can't get them anymore, due to the fact that the beach is now closed. He said you could only get to the beach over private property, and that the Fossil Center is the only attraction in town now. I find this hard to believe. I can't imagine coming to Joggins and not being able to get onto the beach and search for fossils. Would you please answer this for me. We are planning a fall trip to Joggins, but won't come if we can't go on the beach. Thanks.

The beach is open. You can access it at McCarrons River, the new fossil centre via the dug way, the existing stairs at Bells Brook(Hardscrabble Rd) and Lower Cove. No admission. The only admission charge is to the new Fossil Centre.

You can get down to the beach easily but you cannot collect any material. The beach is protected and fossils are not allowed to be taken. Hope this helps as well
