My 22 mo. old grand daughter sets up one gallon water jugs and a wastepaper basket in the barrel pattern and runs the bbls on her stick horse. Here at our house she didn't have a stick horse so I gave her a feather duster and she rides it. She uses a toy arrow, one of those with a suction cup, for a bat. She has all the lingo, "hustle, hustle, kick,, kick," and all you hear around barrel racers. Once in awhile, she knocks one over on purpose and says "oh, no." She has been as far as Reno and Scottsdale with her Mom, and travels really well. She calls me Poppy, and man, do I love that little girl. Varmit, how's the little grandson? By the way, my grand daughter is a lefty like me, and her mom is thinking about encouraging her to rope right handed. I know a guy that does it, but do you guys have experience with that? |

I had a teacher in Jr High that was left handed, but learned to write right handed. Actually, forced to write right. But I think he ropes left. He moved after that, but I still see him about twice a year. At Union, they have races during the rodeo, and he is into race horses. Owns some. Then the barrel club that puts on the big futurity next month, has a stallion auction every fall. They get some REAL nice speed studs and several race horse people show up to see if they can get a good deal. http://www.vgbra.org Go to Stallion Auction link. |

The hardest part about being left handed is the fact that there are not to many people around that can teach you what you need to do because they are right handed. I see no disadvantage for a girl/woman to be left handed. For a guy, the biggest disadvantage is the tying of calves. Calves get use to being tied down by right handers and if they have been to a few rodeos, the majority of them come apart when a left hander goes down the rope on the opposite side of them and flanks and ties. I think they best left handed roper I can remember seeing rope was Ronnie Sewalt. But he tied right handed, which is the best of 2 worlds there. You keep your horse stopping straight by roping left handed and getting off the right. Grandson is growing Hap. Will 7 months old in about 10 days. |

My son (7yrs) calls my dad Papa, and my mom Monder. No idea where that came from. I guess that's as close to Grandma as he could get at 2. Now my 2 yr old niece calls them Poppy and Mondy. He has another grandma named Linda. That was changed to Monder Dondy by his 2yr old vocabulary. Kids are so cool. http://www.vgbra.org Go to Stallion Auction link. |
