What is the difference between an eclectic witch and a hedge witch? do they not both choose there own path? I am just learning about the different paths to follow...have looked at traditional witchcraft and Wicca. Do not know which one is the way to go...still hanging on to that Christian background that has been instilled in me since I was a child. Still fear God will punish me, for even looking for a new path...just know that I am very unhappy and need to find what is right for me.

Eclectic Wicca is basically a form of the Craft wherein the practitioner picks aspects from various specific traditions and adapts them to an individualized practice. Hedge-witchery is also a typically solitary, adaptive form of the Craft, but there's less emphasis on incorporating elements from other specific traditions. For me, there's no reason to fashion a new dogma from others. Coming from a Roman Catholic background I am sympathetic to your misgivings, but saddened that you feel constrained by the concept of a vindictive and controlling higher power. Where does that come from? For many, it comes from hundreds of years of indoctrination. Once you recognize "the good book" is just a book, you can move beyond what the traditional religions say is "the only way" and find a path that resonates with your life, the world around you, and with the reality that surrounds us.

Hi Eima, thats a pretty name :) Well here is what I think... I hope something resonates with you to ease your fear. There are many faces of God. You can see God in everything... To me it makes sense that there is an overlying oneness that can be called the One God, yet is manifested in expressive aspects of the masculine and feminine, on another level the elements, down to the smallest flower. Almost like an evolutionary pyramid of spiritual diversification in conjunction with an ongoing divine creation. (mouthful!!!) I feel I can love and call on specific energies if I am called to, yet I can love the God that is Everything and One with all my heart in the same breath. What I mean is, you don't have to change your heart when you change your perspective on religion. Even in the Bible the most importance is placed on approaching God with sincerity and love for all creation. And the only idea of God that matters is your own... we can only experience God first hand not through the words or laws of others. I don't believe that God the Father, our Abba, our Mother, would wish fear on us. Or would wish us to grovel instead of celebrate. You know the truth instinctively in your own heart because we are unique and God longs for the expression of our uniqueness in sincerity.
