Merry meet sisters! It's nice to find a forum with some recent posts! I'm starting my first herb & flower garden. I've got chamomile, thyme, lavender, jasmine, clary sage and strawberry plants sown indoors and ready to go. I've also got some seeds of hummingbird flowers, butterfly bushes, and moon flowers. Right now I'm leaning towards a crescent moon shaped layout (in full sun), with a spot to sit in the center. At the back of the crescent I will use a horizontally aligned trellace for the climbers. Would anyone like to share any tips or layout ideas? I would also love to hear some uses or recipes for the above mentioned plants, if anyone is keen on sharing. Blessings ~ Nyxie ! ~ |

Don't forget your brothers . . . What, no basil, rosemary or mint? Pesto alone justifies the basil, and if you go there, the recipes are very simple. |

Oh, hi! Hello to you as well, brother. I have some mint growing wild near the front yard, and there is indeed a rosemary plant nearby... no basil though. I'm not much of a cook so I didn't really think about the basil...hmmm...I do like pesto... |

If you cultivate the mint, make sure you put it in a container - it is invasive, and will take over the area it is planted in. Basil is easy, and is the most valuable herb in my garden. As pesto, it freezes well too. |

I can't keep basil outside. Something keeps eating it. I just began gardening myself (finally got a little land that I can play with) and my layout is more flowing and less planned. |

I know, Basil is so fantastic! It's slugs that usually eat it. I haven't got round to growing it iether, but I would try planting loads in a large pot, raised off of the ground and I have heard you can get a copper tape to put round the rim which gives sluggs a little shock to ward them off, or you could try a spell? http://www.wiccaboxofglory.co.uk Supplies to support modern Celtic/Pagan lifestyles, traditions and religion. |

Thanks for the tips; I'll give them a try. I'm also going to start my next batch of basil seedlings indoors to give them a chance to get a little bigger before the slugs try to get them. |
