Check it out on www.hutchnews.com in the Jan. 15, 2003 issue under "Allaga-who?" USD 308 school board did away with the chant citing "it had contained racist words and potentially offensive phrases." In the article it also stated the chant had "babytalk sounding phrases" like "Hey Roo" and "See Si Boom." Some students felt it was racist and others thought it was "a part of history." I was sad to see it go. It is history. What do you all think?

I was sorry to hear the Allagaroo cheer is out...I taught it to my kids and friends, they love to hear it, so we'll still be cheering Allagaroo in Anderson, South Carolina. It was the cheer when my dad was at HHS too. It is a shame they couldn't alter a few words...

Lisa: I remember that cheer so well. My kids know it too. We all think if they just would have dropped that one line (the offensive one)then it would not have affected the cheer at all. It just seems stupid to get rid of 102 year old cheer because of that line. No respect for the History of Hutchinson High School. It's a shame! :(

See what happens, if your kid gets cut from the basketball team, we all will suffer....but I digress http://www.hutchnews.com/past/12-12-2002/local/local3.html http://www.hutchnews.com/past/01-14-2003/local/local7.html http://www.hutchnews.com/past/01-15-2003/local/local1.html http://www.hutchnews.com/days/tuesday/local/local4.html Yes, that is what it is all about.

Emery: Thanks for the reference of articles in the Hutchinson News. The January 14th edition really tells how people in the community feel about tradition. Then they made the comment that the "older generation" is gone and wanting to start a new tradition. Since they are so bent in changing old traditions, do you think they will get rid of the Hutch High mascot, the Salt Hawk? Wasn't that a tradition started many years ago? What if they felt that was another old tradition to get rid of as well? Sorry, I'm just part of that "older generation," that is gone. Hand me my cane! :)

Sorry to hear about the Allagaroo cheer is out.Give me a break. I never realized when attending HHS that I was offending someone with this cheer. I personally feel that people need to have thicker skins, and get on with life. I have raised my family to be kind and considerate of all people. The most important thing to do, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. He has cleansed all who receive him, and will grant eternal life to you!!!
