The mother of Dr. Beatrice Geddie of Rocky Ford GA passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008. Following is Corinne's obituary:

Corinne Spinelli Anderson, writer and community activist, dies September 27 at 92.

Born October 31, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA, graduated from Chapel Hill University, NC, and lived in Miami, Fl, St. Thomas, V.I., White Sulphur Springs, WV, St. Simons Is., GA, Savannah, GA, and Statesboro, GA. Her late husband, W.H. Anderson, was the renowned resident portrait painter at the Greenbriar Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Ms. Anderson was a community activist and president of numerous civic organizations including the Greenbriar and St. Simon’s Women’s Club, Garden Club, and The Humane Society. During the 1970s she was employed in the Mayor's office of the City of Savannah.
As a lifelong animal rights activist, she helped establish several humane societies and diligently worked towards establishing neutering and spaying programs. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her poetry and writing, including Writer’s Digest 1989, 1990, 1994, the Florida Writer’s Festival 1993, and Memoirs, Georgia Senior Authors, 2001. As a social activist and supporter of social justice, Corinne was associated with the Unitarian Universalists for most of her life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her for her compassion, her incredible wit, and her enthusiasm for life.

Surviving are her daughter Beatrice and son-in-law Lawrence Geddie of Rocky Ford GA and grandchildren Laura Christine and Bryan Ray Geddie.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Statesboro, GA in late October with Reverend Jane Page officiating.
