I am looking for information on a McPhail Geddie who married a Rich of Sampson Co., N.C. Mary Elizabeth Rich was her sister and she married Francis Blocker of Cumberland Co. N.C. Francis was the youngest son of John Culbreath and Julia Braddy Blocker. My Father in law, Norman Geddie Blocker was named for the Geddie's. that is why I am intrested in finding out more about this Geddie line. Should you have any information on John Culbreath Blocker, that would be appreciated also. His father is thought to be a William Blocker and Mother was Jean Davis of the Sampson Co. Area. We are looking for documentation of this. Thank you for any information you might have. We have a historical website on Blanton, Fla, the Blockers, and the O'Berry's. It is www.my-Blanton.com if you would like to check it out. There is a picture of Mary Blocker and her sisters, one being a Geddie. Further Details on J. McPhail Geddie/John Culbreath Blocker Searches: . . . The Geddie I am talking about is J. McPhail Geddie and He married Ella Rich, daughter of Lewis H. and Harriet Rich of Boykin Bridge (near Clinton) Sampson County, N.C. Ella was the sister of Mary Elizabeth Rich who married our ancestor, Francis Blocker of Cumberland Co. Ella and J. McPhail Geddie moved to Cumberland county with Mary. If anyone should come across any information on these people I would appreciate them letting me know. Here are some dates for the Blockers: John Culbreath Blocker born Oct. 28, 1811 in Sampson Co. He proclaimed himself raised an orphan and nothing is known of his first 29 years. He surfaced in Cumberland Co. in 1831 and married Julia Braddy of Tarboro, N.C. in 1839. We have much circumstantial evidence that tie him to William and Jean Davis Blocker in Sampson Co. William disappeared from the census after 1790. Because my father in law was named after the Geddie's I would like to learn more about Ella and J. McPhail Geddie. Here is the address for the Blanton website: http://marinell.server101.com/nelle/Blanton-index.htm . Go down to pioneers and pals on the left side and click on Sanford Blocker. Go to about the fourth picture down and you will see Mary Blocker with her sisters. Ella Geddie is the one in the middle. Mary is in the white belt. . . http://marinell.server101.com/nelle/Blanton-index.htm Sanford Blocker Family - Blanton FL |

. . . Ella Geddie (was the) wife of J. McPhail Geddie ... her parents were Lewis H. and Harriet Rich of Boykinbridge, near Clinton. They were living there when Mary Rich, Ella's sister, married Francis Eugene Blocker. Ella and McPhail Geddie bought the house and 100 acres owned by Francis and Mary when Francis came to Blanton, Fla (t was then known as the Geddie Place). It was in Blockersville, or Cedar Creek, in Cumberland Co. on the Cape Fear River. There was a Norman Geddie for whom my father in law was named who ran the store in Cedar Creek for John Culbreath Blocker. The Methodist church everyone went to then was called the Tabor church and was originally on Blocker land. It was also called the Terebinth Methodist, terebinth meaning turpentine tree. It was later moved to its present location... http://marinell.server101.com/nelle/Blanton-index.htm Sanford Blocker Family - Blanton FL |
