Interesting interview The descent into musical psychoses seemed to affect The Strange One the most – perhaps he had most to lose? His acting prowess showed itself on a ever more regular basis. Who would he be today? – Genghis Khan, Adolf Hitler, Joan of Ark, Dolly Parton? He tried to act out the part of a punk, but everybody just laughed. But he took the role very seriously, brazenly courting Dave Van-Ian of the Doomed, and TV Brown of the Hoardings. In the end he seemed to believe that he was a ‘real’ doctor, retrospectively subjecting band members to psychiatric examination and condemning them as “screwed up” and “neurotic” – he even honed his bandaging skills by applying crosses of elastoplast across their faces! Perhaps it was the cash strapped existence that the band were leading that troubled him, lucky to get £20 a week, whilst the “brilliant managers” walked off with ££thousands! They aspired to the “crisp white sheets of now”, but ended up being fucked off to the bottom of Tracey Emin’s bed along with a used tampon, several semen stains from different donors and an unidentified skid-mark for company. Decent music though

OK, it's the experience of one band member out of four and everyone's perspective will be to some extent different. While the lack of a Stoner interview here is down to little more than my own untogetherness (9 years' worth of it, what can I say, I'm a slob), and now I seem to be back in the zone of, ahem, having 'time on my hands', I should probably address this. But regarding the elastoplasted Mr Blitz - if he's up for talking, I'll be up there with my Olympus with no hesitation and the floor's his. As for Tracey Emin... did you ever read 'My Fault' by Billy Childish??

"a used tampon, several semen stains from different donors and an unidentified skid-mark" Neat imagery Jane, could almost be by Strange himself! Just like being there, can almost taste it Thanks Roger

“As for Tracey Emin... did you ever read 'My Fault' by Billy Childish??” Not yet, but I understand that Billy may have been instrumental in inspiring Tracey’s great works ‘CV Cunt vernacular’ and ‘my cunt is wet with fear’. Not that either of them were obsessed with c*(edited by Mod) mind you!

Fascinating stories from the pre-punk early Doctors of Madness days, but unfortunately then it just becomes an extension of the deluded mindset that he demonstrated in his sad and premature autobiog – more name dropping and delusions of grandeur to cover the fact that he hasn’t produced anything of serious value artistically since the Doctors of Madness heydays 35 years ago. He is obviously an addicted sycophantic name dropper – a minor part in a cast of thousands that ended up on the cutting room floor becomes “I worked with Martin Scorsese”. Strange’s current flaccid musical output as showcased on his MySpace page is about as inspiring as wallpaper except that it doesn’t stick as well. He’s such a sad shadow of his former self he’s even reduced to making a desperate grab for the limelight on the Ozit rerelease DOM CD’s now titled ‘featuring Richard Kid Strange’. He is obviously still interested in getting some mileage (or a cheap holiday or two) out of DOM with these stunts in Japan and Yorkshire recently but all he’s achieved is a brainless parody of the original band with out of tune/out of time (very punk!) cacophony in Japan and an unsatisfying low budget downgrade ‘reunion’ in Yorkshire (from a quartet to a trio to a duo (where next, don’t tell me?)) Unlikely to sell many Ozit CD’s and make a contribution to the pension fund which must occupy his thoughts these days. Great and enduring music from the original band, that will stand the test of time Mr Strange; but don’t take the shine off the legacy with second class performances for the sake of a cheap holiday or hypocritical reunion, belated clutching at the straws of fading past glories. “All pop careers end in failure. Or death. Or worse still, a reunion " Two down, one to go.

Strange Interview 2008:- “our managers Bryan Morrison and Justin De Villeneuve, were good managers, they had fantastic reputations, Bryan especially in the music business” Strange Interview Sounds Nov 1978:- (on why things went horrible wrong) “Morrison had been away from the business for 5 years, De Villeneuve coming from fashion, had his finger on the wrong pulse” Strange – perhaps it’s Alzheimer’s already?

"that raucous, neurotic, irritating violin" "you mentioned Blitz’s style as irritating" Fuck me! do you ever get the impression he's still pursuing his 30 year personal grudge against Urban? Sad psychotic old fanny he must be now ;-(

Simmer down Mr multiple personality Strange-baiter. I think he meant irritating as in 'needling', or adding a bit of tension to the sound... in the context I got the feeling it was kind of a compliment. You could say a musician was playing a nagging riff (eg the guitar solo in Boredom), but it doesn't mean you want to put a scold's bridle on Pete Shelley (or was it Diggle, I forget). As far as Blitz's musicianship goes, I think RS has always spoken very highly. Unscrunch those panties.

"Unscrunch those panties" Another sexist psychotic dirty bastard huh? now that really is neurotic & irritating - you'd be better off listening to Lady Gaga (in fact you must be to come up with a braindead comment like that)

Neuroses. psychoses .multiple personalities. grudges. irritation.deranged underwear. suggestions of dubious parentage. This is becoming a psychiatrists nightmare. May I respectfully suggest that a few hours alone in a darkened room listening to Late Night Movies All Night Brainstorms may cure the problems. Roger.

Strange-baiter? – could it be the ghost of Stiv Bators? (remember him?) Maybe his memory is fading in his dotage, but our appreciation of ‘Marie and Joe’ and ‘Network’ as great but largely unrecognized gems of the songsmiths art will go on.

Interesting that Kid Strange, pioneer of art rock schizophrenia, psychosis, delusions and general neurosis with suicidal tendencies; should describe his erstwhile sidekick Urban as “very troubled”. Notable that the show soon folded when Blitz got the push – perhaps he provided the indispensable catalyst for the bands existence? None of Strange’s work since has come close to the gravitas and originality he achieved with DOM imho.

Yeah Jeremy. When Blitz left, the Doctors were no more, despite limping along for a short time afterwards. Maybe he was 'troubled' or possibly he was troubled at the lack of commercial progress, and therefore did the sensible thing and quit. When I exchanged e-mails with him some three years ago he didn't come across as troubled, rather as a good humoured guy, who it seemed, had put his DoM experiences behind him, though he said that he occasionally had a 'scrape' on the instruments.
