Picked up STRANGE to read about The Great White Idiot and The Doctors Of Madness and now I can't put it down again. Forgot what a fantastic read it is... ...Phenominal is the word I'm looking for. Tj |

Agreed TJ. The book is worth buying for that chapter alone. Thanks for the reminder I'll read it again myself tonight... |

What a load of rubbish Bernard, it's one of the best books I have ever read. ...Speak the truth. |

I think you are a sychophant. I love The Doctors Of Madness and the early Strange stuff but Engine Room etc was crap. The autobiography was also far from revealing, it was actually just touching the surface. |

Well, since not anybody (especially, we people abroad)knows the meaning of the word 'sycophant' - I looked it up and found something completely different: "The sycophants are one of the largest of marine carnivores. Their soft, furry underbellies made them a favourite target for hunters. Now, on this island, the sycophants come to breed every summer, protected by law. But they're not the only breed which has been saved by a small body of men determined to preserve the dying species of the world." By the way, Richard' s book drops an awful lot of names, which has been the the subject for criticism in many reviews but most of those reviewers agreed, that it is a worthwile reading experience. And until you can not prove, that TJ has a soft and furry underbelly - don't call him names. Joern |

...Well it is a little bit furry. I like what I like Bernard, that's the truth. So can anyone. I like the book, I like Phenominal Rise and I like the Engine Room. You can only give your opinion and I can only give mine. I persoanlly think there was a lot more to the Doctors Of Madness than just the music they played. The KID"s voice is awesome. Must admit I do prefer the websites were the main artist's additional work is not slagged off so often, but it's a free world think what you want. Tj |

This morning I thought I’d respond to the accusation that I am a sycophant. A sycophant is “a person who uses flattery to win favour from individuals wielding influence.” Have I ever used flattery with anyone to win a favour? Yes I have to admit that I have. I recently did a test for an interview that was based on 27 different areas of the brain. I came out as a visionary, a strategist and, wait for it, a charmer. So there is some element of truth in what you say. However, to defend myself I often say such flattering things where there is no possible way that I am going to win favour. Check out the hundreds of posts I have written about Richard Strange in www.tvsmith.com and ask any of my friends on this forum and you will find that my flattery is very genuine. My comments are very obsessive. I am extremely loyal to a dozen artists and bands, but none more so as TV Smith, Richard Strange and Sparks. I am an obsessive that’s why I set up the TV Smith and Doctors Of madness forum fan clubs, it’s my number 1 hobby. I remained a big Strange and Doctors Of Madnes fan through all the lean years were Richard, Stoner, Urban and Pete where not recording (at least to the best of my knowledge). To me the Doctors the band that where too early, but too late, but have the irony of being the band who’s music has become eternal. Too early for Punk and the post punk Joy Division electronic movement and too late for the Glam of Ziggy Stardust and the best of Progressive Rock (whoever ever that was). The Doctors Of Madness sounds as fresh today as it ever did. And excluding the songs Phenomenal Rise and I Won’t Run Away the best thing Strange has done since the Doctors is the Happiness album This Is War. Richard’s songwriting is as strong as ever. Yes flattery again, but the point is, is any of The Doctors actually reading it? Probably not. I say this to answer you not to win a favour. So to sum it up; yes I have flattered the KID and The Doctors. Yes I have got a lot of ‘favours’ out of it (the best of these being Richard and TV Smith playing twice together on my request). Am I genuine in my praise? YES I mean every single word. You’d better belief it! Glad you love the early Strange and the Doctors Bernard. Have you tied out the Happiness album? Can we call this a draw now? Tj |
