Author Topic:   Could a new house be haunted?

Could it be possible for a new house to be haunted? My sister just recently built a house next to the Watauga River in Elizabethton,TN and some pretty interesting things have been occurring. My niece has been seeing a little girl in a white dress on numerous occasions. Both during the day and especially at night. She has also said that a girls face has appeared in the toilet. When frightened by the image, my niece flushed it and slammed the lid down. She then opened it back up and some hair appeared inside the water. My sister says that she has heard the sound of a child screaming. The family dog (inside dog) also will sometimes bark, uncontrollable, for no apparent reason. I wonder if maybe something has followed them to their new home because strange things happened at their last home that just freaked me out. Anyways, the place they live now, use to be called Cat Island, I believe. It use to be surrounded by water from the Doe and Watauga rivers. Recently, we heard of road construction being halted only a mile or so away, due to indian artifacts being found. Any ideas or suggestions?

jason,
yes it is possible it happend to me. this ghost could have drowned or could have been a indian girl that died.that would explain the dog barking. some say that a dog has a sixth sense and may sense the ghost girl. good luck. what was it that scared you at the other house anyway?

The last house was a relatively old house with little cubby holes in the bedrooms. The daughter of the first owners was reportedly killed, how, I'm not sure. Anyways, one day we are sitting downstairs and a childs laugh came through on their baby monitor. Only the freaky thing was, the babies were both downstairs asleep in their cribs and the other monitor was upstairs. My brother-in-law also said that while he was sleeping one night, he felt someone sit at the end of his bed and run their hand up his leg. He thought it was my sister but awoke to find nobody there. My sister was asleep in the next room with my niece. I use to stay there when they went on vacation, to watch their animals and just always had an eerie feeling. Like someone was breathing down my neck or something. I never saw anything but heard the floor squeak upstairs several times. My sister said one morning, she heard our mother's voice plainly yell out her name. She was expecting her that day but not that early. So she jumped out of bed and yelled that she would be down in a second, well the dog started barking violently, while looking down the stairs. My sister threw on some clothes and went downstairs. Nobody was there and no cars were in the driveway. It was just a wierd house, I could ramble for hours about this place or even the house before that one but I'd better get back to work or I'll end up homeless. Later!

Yes a new house can be haunted. Probably the only reason the ghost would follow your sister is if she had something of importance to the ghost or if it somehow knew your sister before it passed away

There could be numerous reasons why this child is lingering...
Because your sister once lived in a very old house that had a "child-death" within, the spirit could have attached it's energy to an item that was in the old house. Did your sister take anything from the old house that she may have come across that was in the house prior to her moving in? If she did, that would be my first guess.
Also, spirits walk the land from where they hail. This child could be from that area and be looking for her "home".
I think that the reason the little girl stays with your sister is because she has adopted her as a mother-figure.
None of you really have anything to worry about. Sounds like the girl is happy.

A house doesn't have to be old to have spirit activity. You may be experiencing a residual haunting which comes from the area or property. A spirit could be atached to the land or as another poster stated, to an object taken from the other house. At any rate, nothing you described sounds dangerous and I would not be too worried. You could try asking in a polite but stern voice that the spirit please not scare your neice. The litle girl may be looking for a friend and not realize she is being scary.
