Does the Christopher Columbus chapel really house pieces of the original cross of Christ? I don't think so... |

Yes, there are two pieces of the True Cross in the Columbus Chapel. They were given to the Columbus family in 1817 by the Bishop of Leon who got them from the monastery of St. Toribius of Liebana in his diocese. St. Toribius was the Keeper of the Holy Relics in Jerusalem in the 5th century and brought the left arm of the Cross to Spain when Jerusalem was under attack. http://boalmuseum.com Columbus Chapel web site |
